Working With Schools

Safeguarding pupils from extremism

Safeguarding children from extremism whether Islamist inspired or far right is important to address.  Since the 1st July 2015, schools, early years and later years childcare providers have a statutory requirement to have “due regard to the need to prevent people from being drawn into terrorism.”

Evidence has shown that extremists are deliberately preying on children in order to radicalise them and draw them into violence.  Schools can play an important role in protecting and safeguarding those vulnerable pupils.  Read more about the role of schools here: http://www.wewillinspire.com/safeguarding-children-from-extremism-is-not-about-spying/

Inspire have been working with teachers and schools across the country to help equip them to challenge extremism.  We provide training, support and consultancy and as experienced trainers offer a offer a wide range of training programmes for teachers, governors, parents and pupils alike which can be adapted to meet specific needs of the target audience.  Learn more about our services here:

Our work with pupils is also very well received.  Watch Inspire deliver a session to 250 6th form students at the Crest Academies addressing issues around Muslim women and gender equality.

We have also been working in partnership with the Association of Schools and College Leaders delivering training for headteachers and senior leaders.  Read more about our work with the ASCL – http://www.telegraph.co.uk/education/educationopinion/11702032/Schools-put-centre-stage-in-radicalisation-fight.html

Participant Feedback:

“Thank you again for the workshop you delivered last week. I have been inundated with responses and feedback from staff; it was highly valued by all and the events in Paris over the last week have only cemented that.” Amy, assistant head teacher

“Thank you so much for running the four training sessions for students and staff last week. Feedback from students was really positive. Several had been sceptical before the day about why they should attend, wondering what they would learn that they hadn’t heard before etc. I think they were really pleased to be covering something relevant, pitched at the right level, and delivered by an expert in the field.” Karen, Principal, Enterprise and technology college

“There has been great praise for your training from my colleagues who have attended (there a critical bunch so that’s praise indeed).” Claire, Curriculum leader

“The safe environment provided with simple rules of listening and respecting helped all to have their say. You were brilliant facilitators” Farzana, multi-faith forum coordinator

“Really informative session with really engaging trainers. Great session.” Matt, teacher

“Excellent training, relevant and engaging.” Karen, higher education teacher
