‘Where’s the Honour?’

Friday 05 February 2010, 18:39

A Conference on Forced Marriage and Domestic and Honour Based Violence. Organised by CHARNWOOD DOMESTIC ABUSE FORUM and HUMAN RIGHTS & EQUALITIES CHARNWOOD.

Sara Khan was invited to talk at the conference.  She spoke about how Islam does not support acts of violence against women, whether that be honour killings, domestic violence or forced marriages.  Although such crimes do exist they are not supported by Islamic theology.  She highlighted that it was clear in Islam that relationships are to be based on human dignity, compassion, love and equality.  She ended by saying more needs to be done within and outside of Muslim communities to address these social and cultural crimes.
